The HFES South Jersey Chapter celebrated World Usability Day 2007 on November 8 with our first annual Usability Essay Contest for high school students at Egg Harbor Township High School.

The South Jersey Chapter aims to be involved in the South Jersey community through events such as the Jersey Shore Science Fair, by hosting volunteer activities such as our Human Factors Roadshow, and by organizing regional human factors conferences, such as our 2005 Mini-Conference on Human Factors in Complex Sociotechnical Systems.

In 2007, we will be visiting local high schools to conduct an essay contest in celebration of World Usability Day.  Ferne Friedman-Berg will be leading the chapter's community outreach program this year.

Since 2003, the chapter has sponsored prizes in the Jersey Shore Science Fair in the Behavioral Science Category.  Middle and High School students from all over South Jersey present projects at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.  The chapter presents awards in each of the junior, intermediate, and senior age groups and invites the winners to present their projects to a special meeting of the chapter.  This annual event is one of the highlights of the year and gives both the students and the members a very rewarding experience.

Since 2006, the chapter has also sponsored prizes for the Student Invention Through Education (SITE) program that highlights the talents of student inventors from around New Jersey.

Past chapter presidents, Tanya Yuditsky and Kenneth Allendoerfer were named to the HFES National Ergonomics Month Honor Roll for their efforts in promoting the field in the South Jersey community.
